I decided to go for the Estee Lauder Sale event of the year that was held in Renaissance Hotel Kuala Lumpur yesterday. The Sale of the Year was supposed to start at 9am but I was adviced by SoGua to go line up at 6am instead because there will be those crazy aunties wanting to grab and run for the cashier counter. Not so crazy myself because I just wanted to see if the product I use has offer or not, I went there (pulling SoGua) together with me just in case at about 11am or so.On the sideline, this sale was only for those with tickets and I got some tickets because SoGua’s also got a good friend whose girlfriend works there.
So anyway, boy did I regret going there several times!
Regret #1. We drove to the parking area and was stuck in the jam at the same spot not moving for at least 10 - 20 minutes. Why? Because some crazy auntie parked her car illegaly and blocked the road that cause a travel coach unable to move thus creating a super jam scenario just outside the lobby of Renaissance Hotel Kuala Lumpur’s hotel. At that time, Sogua’s already complaining why they hold the sale here when there’s so many hotels to choose from in Kuala Lumpur. I told him Renaissance Hotel Kuala Lumpur sounds status ma. Estee Lauder wor. Along with other brands like DKNY, Clinique, Origins and etc etc etc. Anyway, in the car, you could say my Kenari was probably the cheapest around because most were either driving Hondas and Toyotas or Mer-che-des or Lexus. In the car, we noticed those aunties that came out from the building were all carrying huge smiles and bags. And I mean bags and bags of their day’s result. Boy, I think the loads of perfume they bought can fill up a whole bathtub and I’m not kidding
Luckily enough, we found a parking without any difficulty although the parking was super full. Ngam ngam at that time, someone was leaving that particular parking spot. Perhaps God would like me to spend more today? Let’s see. Already when we reach the entrance of the lift, there were a few ladies also with their bags and bags of stocks happily chatting about their expenditure of the day. We could actually smell the whift of the perfume and godness me, its so strong!
Regret #2. Reaching the location where the sale is held, we saw what could be called the most longest line ever created in a hotel. They were all lining up for their bags. It so happens that they do not allow bags to be brought into the hall so everyone has no choice but to leave their bags at the locker. Looking at the line, I was thinking of backing out but how can since I’m already here and paid for the parking right? Luckily also, I’m pretty smart by draging SoGua with me so I don’t have to queque like those aunties there and yet get to enjoy my shopping! So I grabbed my wallet and handphone and rushed into the crowd.
By this time, I guess most of the good stuff were gone because although I could see many many many women around the tables looking at something but actually their somethings were all their things that they picked out. I manage to grab something I was looking for and help my mom saved her RM120 moisturizer for only RM40. Then I also picked up some 2 more stuff that was more useless to me than its useful to me. I did run around the hall for sometime but only see that most that was left were perfumes. Although they are relatively super cheap compared to what is they usually offer at the counters, its not like I’m going to splurge on some fragrance that I don’t know how it smells like right? Why cannot smell? Because the whole hall is so mixed with difference fragrances my nose is starting to get sick already! Time to pay up
Regret #3. “Credit card, please line up here”, says the burly man so I gets into the line. Shocked, I also wanted to back out. What I said earlier about the longest line in the hotel made outside the hall? I take it back. This is the longest line made in the hotel. Its so long I had to wait for another 20 minutes to pay 4 items! There were at least 6 lines for credit cards and at least 12 counters going kacing!$$ kacing!$$. I do have to say its really well managed although I’ve learnt a thing or 2 about all this sale. Its about impulse buying! Most of the people there lining up were checking their goods and in the end most also left what they didn’t want to buy by the side. So why push and pull to grab something you don’t want in the end? Kiasu-ism? But guess what? What other people didn’t want, other other people might want it because whatever that other people left, other other people took it and put into their bag. O_O!!
When I came out from the stuffy hall, SoGua was surprised I was the least buyer. Hello? You think I’m a millionaire or something? Although cheap but doesn’t mean you buy for the sake of buying right? It takes a lot of discipline and control to not grab everything that other people are grabbing!
SoGua, outside waiting and sniffing 2nd hand smoking witness a very angry uncle who lined up for 1 hour just to get his wife’s handbag only to be met by the staff there that apologized and said he cannot claim the handbag unless he has the collection card number. Obviously not thinking right, he shouted to the poor staffs there that they are out of their mind ticking them off that they are stupid because “its my wife’s handbad, so how come I cannot take it?”. Duh, obviously this uncle is very exhausted and frustrated. Erm, who told you that rich people have more manners than others again? *tsk tsk tsk*
