Nurses are usually an occupation that everyone regard as caring for the sick and needy people. Many a times, I’ve always regarded nurses with respect as I understand that this is an occupation that one needs to have unconditional love and care in the person’s heart. However, my perception of a nurse has changed as the time passed and the nurse nowadays compared to nurses probably 20 years ago might be very different. No doubt, there are still the good nurses around but I think the statistics are probably 1 out of 20. Why such a statement came from me? Well, has anyone ever encountered rude nurses in their lifetime? Plenty, for me.
These nurses usually occur in when you happen to be visiting a speacialist. Today when I happen to visit a specialist, a very nasty nurse with partically lots of sarcasm in her voice treated everyone there with no respect as patients. What happened in the clinic today really shocked me as “the kind of service that nowadays if you keep on keeping, is no good”. Here’s a series of example
Example 1
Me scared to taking blood and Nurse #1 (a very old nurse can say age about 60) was taking my blood. With no regard to whether you are scared or not scared, she just simply poke the darn needle to my skin. After concluding that she cannot find any vein or blood on my right hand (that time needle already inside my skin), she moved on to my left hand without even telling me what happened until I asked why need two hands for blood.
Example 2
When took the medication from Nurse#1, she did not even bother to mention or explain how the medication should be taken. Excuse me, I know its routine for her but its not for us patients right? When I asked if the medicine should be taken before or after food, her reply was, “it doesn’t matter”. And tone was very I-do-not-care
Example 3
When bill was presented to me, the amount was a whopping RM380. When presented the credit card, Nurse #2 said that they do not accept credit cards. Now, why would you want to charge sky ceiling prices and not accept credit cards? No one nowadays carry that much of cash! Luckily I manage to get an ATM to press money out (actually, very lucky my ATM even got any money!) The unfortunate happening was that Nurse #1, #2 & #3 argued with mom and insisted that they told her to bring lots of cash! The annoying part was that not only accused my mom for not bringing any cash but did not even care to apologize. According to Nurse #1, she said “for the past 10 years, we always ask our customers to bring cash”. Well, I bet for the past 10 years you did not make a single mistake then. You must be God.
Example 4
When mom asked why were the charges so expensive. Nurse #1 & 2 fail to give us a very satisfactory answer and instead we were asked back “Would you like to get your blood test somewhere else instead” with lots of sarcasm in her voice. Well, can we not pay for the blood test then you give me back my blood and tell me where I can get the blood test elsewhere? Duh.
Well, I guess its time that Nurse #1 go on retirement. Maybe she’s too tired that why she happens to be so rude. But Nurse #1 really make the whole nursing industry people look bad. Too bad for them.
Those examples were only for nurses, even most doctors nowadays are very tactless when facing patients. I can’t describe doctors that much but I’ve personally encountered doctors that either have no time for you where they explain things like a choo choo train or just give you the medication and ask you to leave. When ask more in detail about the sickness, they ask you to look up on the internet instead. So why need to pay so much for the consultation ha? Then there are also doctors that when break the bad news to you, just break it out like that without caring for the patient’s feelings. They just say too bad you got cancer or too bad you got heart attack. Too bad hor. Maybe they should go for pyschological training as well.
Seriously, the medical industry now only cares to suck out or cut throats or steal the pockets of patients instead of really caring and helping the needy. Someone should do something. But who? Maybe that’s why the insurance industry is thriving.
